Departure Without Compensation
Azerbaijani side “Sumqayit” has terminated the contracts of two Uzbek legionnaires ahead of schedule — central forward Bobur Abdikholikov and wide attacking midfielder Jasur Jaloliddinov. Both players joined the team on free transfers under the Bosman ruling, but after just one season the board opted to lighten the wage bill ahead of the summer window.
What the Striker Delivered
Signed to bolster the forward line, Abdikholikov managed to nail down a starting spot: he regularly appeared in the XI, created chances, scored once and provided two assists. For a debut campaign in the Azerbaijani Premier League those numbers are respectable, yet the coaching staff expected a bigger goal return from a traditional centre-forward. In the end the parties parted ways while retaining a professional relationship.
The Winger’s Difficulties
The move proved much tougher for Jaloliddinov. The left winger, renowned for his dribbling and pace, never really adapted to the side’s tactical demands. Ineffective cameos, scant minutes and a total lack of end product made him the prime candidate for a release. The player needed a reset and Sumqayit needed a roster slot for a new creative wide man.
Possible Return to the Uzbekistan Super League
Several clubs back home are willing to snap the duo up: rumour has it Abdikholikov is on Nasaf’s radar, while Jaloliddinov is linked with Tashkent’s Lokomotiv. For now their representatives are weighing offers and have not ruled out a short-term loan to keep match fitness until the winter window.
Sumqayit’s Plans and Takeaway
The breakup with the Uzbek pair underlines the club’s strategy of targeted signings and a younger roster. Over the next few weeks Sumqayit plans to bring in a pivot centre-forward and a promising right winger from the domestic league. A successful recruitment drive would allow the team to contend for a top-half spot, while giving Abdikholikov and Jaloliddinov a chance to reboot their careers in a more familiar environment.
